Steamboat
Springs, Colorado Saturday March
31st & Sunday April 1st, 2012 CROSS
COUNTY SKI, SNOWBIKE, SKIKE (ski & snowbike) or SNUNI (snow unicycle) Special Event Notice posted
3/27/2012 The weather Gods and the Weather Channel have spoken, and
they say two weeks from now will be ideal for starting a garden or getting a
tan, but not for skiing. More importantly, Jason, our groomer, doesn’t think the
course will be groomable by April 7th
and 8th. He and I do feel, however, that conditions should
be excellent this weekend. To get to the point, the Steamboat Coureur has been moved
to March 31st for the ski events and April 1st for the
bike and Snuni. This is not an April fools
spoof. We feel we can put on a first class event on short notice
and hope that this unforeseen change works for all the competitors who have
registered or have been following this event closely. The time table for the events is unchanged. We encourage all parking to be in the Walton Peak/Hogan
Park parking area just 1 mile west of the race start area. Shuttle will
be running continuously from 7:30 AM-9:00 AM for the start and then will run
as needed for returning skiers. If anyone is coming from Denver and can pick up some
products from the Muscle Milk
warehouse in Denver, you will receive a free case of Muscle Milk. It is
good stuff! FAQ (frequently anticipated questions) 1. Q:
I have already registered, what are my options? A.
Here is what you can do:
i.
Show up and race
ii.
If you cannot race you can apply your entry
fee to raffle
tickets for skis, lodging packages, clothing, rib eye steaks, USNC jacket
and more. $35=4 tickets, $95=10.
iii.
Request a refund. While the official
policy is no refund we recognize the unusual nature of nature and want you to
come back in the future. 2. Q:
Will we be able to do the full course? A.
We strongly believe that not only will you be
able to do the entire course, but it will be in stellar shape. 3. Q:
What is the situation with food (lunch)? A.
All 50k competitors will get free food and
beer/drinks and we will do our best to have lunch available for $6/meal for
others. There will be some excellent sandwiches from Back Country Provisions
(970-879-3617) and Steamboat Meat and Seafood (970) 879-3504. We will not have time
to do custom orders, but you can choose from turkey, red meat or veggie
selections. There will also be soup and salad on Saturday, but not on
Sunday. 4. Q:
When and how can I register? A.
You can register on-line at www.zapevent.com or go directly to http://www.zapevent.com/ListActivities.aspx?eventid=1841
(recommended) . Registration will be
open on-line until 3/30. Because of the last minute changes you can
also register at Steamboat Ski Touring Center on 3/30 between 9-5PM (not
recommended) or before 8AM on race day at the Steamboat Snowmobile Tours
cabin at the start/finish area(not recommended). 5. Q:
Is the web site (www.steamboatcoureur.com)
up to date? A.
We are trying, but some date and time changes
may not be missed so write or call if there is a question. 6. Q:
Will this be a really awesome event that I don’t want to miss no matter what
else is going on? A.
Yes. 7. Q:
Can I still ask more question? A.
Yes. The
2012 Steamboat Coureur will be an opportunity to participate in an inaugural
event and enjoy some great spring cross country skiing, sniking (snowbiking),
skiking (ski and snowbiking) or snuniing (snow unicycling) on Rabbit Ears
Pass near Steamboat Springs. The Ski: On Saturday March 31st you can ski
10k, 25k or 50k on perfectly groomed trails (classic and skate for 25k and
50k). Expect to line up with everyone
from Joe casual to current Olympic Medalists and World Champions. The Snow Bike:
On Sunday April 1th take the day off or participate in the
first ever Snowbike 17k and 50k or 5k or 17k Snow-unicycle event in Routt
County. You can be a purist and do one
or the other, or to really make a spring transition in style, do the Skike
50/50 (ski 50k and bike 50k). There
will be loads of great prizes and give-a-ways from our sponsors for all competitors as well as a
special fundraiser
raffle to support Emerald Mountain Park and the Steamboat Springs Winter
Sports Club Nordic Scholarship Program.
Help support these great non-profits and get a chance to win over
$6,000 dollars worth of super prizes. 100%
of raffle proceeds will go to support human powered trail-based recreation. Come and join us for the weekend and enjoy all Steamboat has to offer!
